Lightroom CC (aka Lightroom Mobile) allows you to start editing a photo on your computer, and finish it off on your tablet or mobile phone, all the while backing everything up to the cloud.Ĭapture One lacks these powerful photo organization tools, and doesn’t currently have a mobile app either. Then there’s the Lightroom device-syncing capabilities of the Creative Cloud. It also lets you set custom keywords for your own search criteria and search through photo metadata for even easier honing in on the specific shots you’re looking for. Obviously, this isn’t very useful for other kinds of photography, but if you’re a portrait or street photographer, it can be extremely helpful.įurthermore, Lightroom’s latest versions come with A.I-powered keyword search tools that make sorting photos by various criteria simple and fast. However, depending on which version of Lightroom you’re using, it can offer some deeply powerful features that Capture One doesn’t quite match.įor one thing, Lightroom’s best version offers a facial recognition algorithm technology that lets you search and categorize photos based on who appears in them. This also means being able to have as many multiple layers as you need with all of them displaying their own masks and opacity, along with gradients and so forth.Īll these different layers can also have their own sharpening levels and other photo calibration adjustments.Ĭapture One and Lightroom are similar when it comes to photo organization. In Capture One, you can set single layers for nearly any specific tools that it offers. In terms of how its interface handles layers, Capture One beats the Adobe competitor too. In this way, it fits better for customized editing workflow than Lightroom does. Lightroom offers a bit of mobility with its developer tools, but that’s it.Ī big benefit of Capture One is that it lets you create your own keyboard shortcuts for specific tools and functions, or change the ones that are integrated by default.

The editing elements of the standard interface that the software suite opens up with can be shifted in all sorts of ways for a smoother workflow. However, where Capture One really kicks ass is on its flexibility for customization.

(-) very high price (based on EU prices). Both Lightroom and Capture One Pro offer extremely versatile, complex interfaces for a vast range of editing and photo manipulation options. (-) missing functions like adding manually photo to the map location or auto sync EXIF with imported gpx file, (-) color balance of the same frame between 5D3, 5D4, 5DsR and 1DXII models should be better, (-) default preloaded parameters makes the impression about superior details of C1 but it’s a fake, To conclude my experience with Capture One I would like to add the simple list of (+) and (-) : Adding Photoshop processing in the workflow with DPP & Lightroom, I don’t see any reason for the Capture One. Despite Capture One editing features looks good, as a Canon user, I don’t have a feeling it can replace my DPP & Lightroom combo.

Last but not least in my country Capure One price is almost x2 over Lightroom! And Digital Photo Professional is free.
The missing functions like adding manually photo to the map or auto sync EXIF with imported gpx file are not acceptable for me.
Furthermore, GPS and mapping support of Capture One is very basic and it doesn’t feel my needs.
With DPP (Picture Style: Faithful) I get better balanced colors between Canon camera models (I have tested 5D3, 5D4, 5DsR and 1DXII raw files).įurthermore, after importing my catalogue (around 19000 photos, Win7, 64 bits, SSD HD) from Lightroom to Capture One I noticed C1 was working noticeable slower than Lightroom (for instance a search function by keywords is very slow, and yes, before that I did catalogue optimization). The default 5D4 colors of Capture One are not what I like. Turning off them in C1, the details of default DPP photo are very close to C1. To be clear, the default C1 5D4 raw settings include some preset parameters. Capture One default and DPP with above parameters
